Overwhelmed - help!
April 9, 2015
Dear Clare & Posey: the sheer volume of information about transformation, spiritual ideas and conscious living is simply overwhelming. Who do I believe? Please help!
Clare: As your soul, I see you are confused by the written, verbal and visual chaos in this evolving world of seeking spiritual insight. Ancient secret wisdom, once only seen by a chosen few, is now available to everyone. This has created a maze of high values and some goofiness. Where do you fit in? What is of value to you? How can you discern which words of wisdom are best for you?
This is where accessing your intuition is necessary. When you read, view or hear a new idea, trust the FEELING of positive or negative meaning for you. Take the information into your body or heart to know if it resonates with your particular values. This practice will help you recognize who and what to believe. Next learn to KNOW what information is in alignment with you (not your family or friends, just you). For instance, does a certain word or paragraph in a book spark aliveness in you, do you check in with what your body wants for food and follow that immediate tingle? When you listen intently for alarm bells warning you or softness inviting you, this is progress! It helps to turn off all external stuff and listen to your heart rather than your mind. Find your way to step out of chaos and confusion and the overwhelm will lessen. Keep at it – you are the one to believe in.
Posey: Ah! I can see you are bugged by the continuous drumbeat of new information, new teachers and new ideas promising to make your life better. For sure, it is a plate too full and too rich. I do agree with Clare that you need to be more self-aware. But, I invite you to take a wide approach and enjoy the banquet. It is there for you to participate in – use your inquisitive, investigative thinking brain. If you cannot make a decision, ask your friends and follow their lead. They may know more than you, or at least pretend they do. Check to see what is most popular and read it.
As your faithful ego, I am your self-serving agent and I want what is best for you, but I want it for you right now! Practice takes time and patience, of which I am too busy to deal with. Poke around, make waves as you investigate, be noisy and nosy. You will find what you are looking for. And, if you make a mistake, you can start all over again. Watch what your emotions are telling you…if they are on the front burner running hot you may be too much in an ego state. Remember, we are attempting balance here, not just pushing and striving. In any case, go for it, surround yourself with what is offered, using your imagination to enjoy the banquet and resolve your overwhelm.
